WEEK 9 MATCHUP BRIEFING

Situation

It's getting close to crunch time. With five games left in the regular season, I am facing a daunting up hill battle to retrain my undefeated streak in winning the Beards Division. Heck, I am just trying not to get relegated down to the Bros division. There are still a lot of good battles going on for divisional titles this year, but it appears to be between two teams in each division. Paul's team just keeps putting up huge points. Jordan's team is still stacked even without a TE. Dana is looking to put some pressure on Travis. Linda will probably fade out, as usual. Let's get to the matchups.

Intelligence

Dark Lord Commissioner vs Hays Blaze

Just when I thought I had my RBs set, stupid Covid strikes again! Apparently. Jamaal Williams is butt buddies with Dillon. Both are now on the Covid list. I learned this year that there is no such thing as a "mild" calf strain. Jones is likely to miss his third game due to the "mild" calf strain. FML. I shouldn't need a strong RB performance to beat Travis, though. Fant gets his shot at the Falcons D. Each week he should get better as his ankle improves. I have to hope this is a James White week against the Jets. I have little confidence in that.

Rodgers will face a tougher defense this week with no name RBs behind him. Burkhead has as much chance of being relevant as James White. We will consider that a wash. Taylor is gimpy and Chubb is on bye. You know Brady is going to feed his BFF Brown in his first game with the Bucs. I feel sorry for Cooper having to attempt to catch passes from another no name QB facing the Steelers. Ouch. I won't put up big points this week, but it should be plenty to beat Hays Fizzle.

Mother Tucker vs The Jedi Master

I noticed Justin hadn't picked up a QB after waivers ran this morning. I thought I would help make his decision easier by picking up Cam against the Jets. If Cam is going to have another good game, it would have to be against the Jets. I had an open roster slot with Jamaal in the Covid Reserve. Why not. I want Justin to lose to put him further behind me for the bottom spot in the division. He also faces Dana. She needs all the help she can get.

With me grabbing Cam, Justin picked up Cousins vs Detroit. Not a bad option, but we know the Vikings prefer to run, run, run. Jacobs and Gibson will get their touches, but little receptions which is a big negative in PPR. It will be interesting to see if Dallas will be a Claypool game or Dionte game. There should be plenty for both, if Dionte can stay on the field.

Dana is really going to enjoy watching her Steeler D face the no-name Dallas QB. We saw what happened to Dallas against the Eagles D. The Steeler D is much better. Dana took no chances with the waivers and picked up Stafford vs the leaky Vikings secondary. If anyone can do little with much, it is Stafford. We will see. Dana was having such a hard time figuring out which running back to start in TB, so she has decided to start both of them! With Bengals on bye, I guess either of them is better than Kelley. Jared Cook should get another TD in what should be a higher scoring game vs TB. We know Julio and Keenan will get double digit targets. Yep, it seems Dana pretty much has an advantage in most positions this week which does not bode well for the defending champ.

EW Black vs Roodiculous

My brother looks to continue his second half charge to stay relevant in the Broads division. This week, he gets a reeling Roodiculous team which has lost four straight. Things don't look to get better for the Roo this week. Herbert has been a surprise in his rookie season, but Steve has Brady who is heating up the more he get comfortable in the new system. Both teams have question marks at RB. Gordon and CEH were both dependable options until late. Montgomery and Singletary are two peas from the same pod.

The advantage for Steve is that he has the undisputed number 1 TE in Kelce. I think the difference is the points advantage between Kelce and Jonnu this week.

Just Beat Gary vs Rolling Dunder

Just when we thought David was the favorite for the Crapper, Krug said, "hold my beer". Krug has now matched David with a 6 game losing streak. I think he surpasses it by losing his 7th straight against the mighty Jordan. I think Jordan needs to change his team name. Just Beat Gary? Just Beat Everyone.

If Dunder is going to have a chance, he has to get Thomas back to help counter Jordan's Adams. Tyreek has been very consistent this year. He hasn't had the big ceiling game, but 15 - 20 points is almost a given. It must be really tough to have to start Hopkins in the flex. As long as Jordan has Robinson to anchor his RBs, his team is an unstoppable force.

King of the Crapper vs Check Out My Lightsaber

David better be glad he got his one win this year. It's going to get ugly this week facing the highest scoring team so far this year. Russ continues to cook, while Lamar is still frozen. What a difference a year makes. Paul's mighty RB stack of Henry and Dalvin is going to be hard for any of us to match. Paul does have some weaknesses in his WRs as they don't have the upside. Who needs WRs when both of your running backs can post 40 burgers in any game.

At this point, David is just trying to build a team that can keep him of the Crapper during the Crapper playoff.

Underestim8ed vs Its On Like Donkey Kong

I really want Linda to pull off the upset this week, but her teams always fade down the stretch. Zeke will be lucky to get to 10 points against the Steelers. Maybe he can get some dump offs to help. There is a chance Linda can sneak a victory if this can be a Lockett game. It seems it's either a Lockett game or a DK game. The differentiator this week is with the QB matchups. Chicago is clamping down on WRs which means Tanny won't have a big game through the air. He can still run, though. But, Watson faces the other JV team in the NFL...the Jaguars. Watson should light it up.

Tracy has also been good at finding the daily RB gems. This week he picked up Ervin from the Packers. I doubt Aaron Jones plays which means Ervin will be a weekly one hit wonder this week when Carson doesn't play. Tracy continues to stay one step ahead. Even if he doesn't trust Ervin, he still has Justin Jackson to give him a safe 10 point floor. I feel this is like the USA Hockey Team facing the USSR. I am praying for a miracle.
