WEEK 8 MATCHUP BRIEFING

Situation

As we enter into the second half of the regular season, competition is fierce as we jockey to see who can build a champion. Jordan has gone all-in on his inaugural year in the League. This man has some serious dedication waking up at 4am to be first to pick-up free agents off the waiver wire. I guess we know who the young ones are in the group. I am getting too old to do that kind of stuff. I am sure Gary isn't too happy with me making that trade with Jordan the week he faces him. Just Beat Gary looks inevitable.

Dark Lord Commissioner vs Mother Tucker

Ah, my annual Lose/Lose matchup with Dana. If I win, I lose because I will be taking cold showers for the week. If I lose, I lose. My trade was more season long than for this week. I am without my stud QB this week who is on bye. A rash of injuries post-trade depleted my WRs quickly. With newly acquired Fuller on bye, Godwin out with a fractured finger, and Deebo out with a bad hammy, I had to make a waiver wire move to acquire Aiyuk. I did want to have one of the passing options in San Francisco. Since I traded Kittle, the next best option with Deebo out was Aiyuk going against a porous Seattle defense. One of the reasons I was willing to trade Kittle for Fant in the deal was target % by position. So far this year, Denver is targeting the TE 31% of the time while SF is targeting the position 29% of the time. SF is a more balanced offense where the RBs are targeting just as often as the TE. Total targets to the TE position is 66 for SF to 61 for Denver. Not that much difference. If Fant can get his ankle healthy, he has the same YAC ability as Kittle. I know that is a big IF, as Fant was still pretty hobbled in his first game back.

I love the analytics behind fantasy football which is why I am looking into going back to college to get a degree in data analytics with a focus on inferential thinking. This is the area used for data modeling and simulations. One of my biggest advise I give to my children is to find something they enjoy and figure out a field that taps into that subject area, but also pays decently. For me, it's always been technology and analysis. It's a key secret to success and life fulfillment. That and working your ass off.

Anyway, as for this matchup, Dana has the advantage since I have to roll out Jimmy Garbage this week. I am praying for a miracle in a juicy matchup vs the Seattle Defense which has turned from Legion of Boom to Legion of Doom cause they can't stop nobody.

The Jedi Master vs Hays Blaze

Travis' luck will run out this week as he faces some real competition from an underperforming team. Don't let the record fool you. Justin's team is still dangerous. Robby Anderson should easily go over 100 against the Atlanta D. I highly doubt CMC is back, but Davis should still have a great game against that same Atlanta D. There will be plenty of fantasy goodness to go around in that matchup. To top it off, Wentz is heating up in time to face the imploding Cowboys who look like they have given up. Hurst is the wurst, but he will probably get a touchdown. I am looking for a nice bounce back game for Claypool. Unlike my brother, Justin doesn't bench his receivers after a bad game.

Travis does have somethings going his way this week. With no Godwin, Evans should have one last good game before Antonio shows up and Godwin returns. Boyd should ball vs the Titans. The problem with Travis' team is Cooper has a rookie nobody throwing the ball against a ferocious Eagles front 7. He has to hope Cooper gets a lot of short screens and crossing routes cause I doubt the rookie is going to have a lot of time to throw the ball. The nail on Travis' coffin this week is his DBs. If Taylor can't have a good game vs the Lions then it just isn't happening this year. Maybe Travis catches lightning in a bottle with Sexy Rexy. I doubt it.

It's On Like Donkey Kong vs King of the Crapper

Considering the records, this matchup is a lot closer than you would think. Most of Tracy's lineup are against tough matchups. Seattle can't cover anyone, but they do limit the run since teams can just pass all day on them. Denver is pretty good against RBs, too. But Tracy is bringing in the Carr to save his day against the Browns.

For David, I think it comes down to how many touches Bell gets in a revenge matchup against the Jets. There should be plenty of mop up time in this game. If there was a game to give Helaire a rest, this is the one. I don't think this is the get well game for Lamar against the Steelers. The Ravens offense just hasn't been clicking, but the Steeler D has. Thielen doesn't have the best matchup, either. While I am pulling for my son to get the upset against my division's leader, I just don't see it happening this week.

Check Out My Lightsaber vs Underestim8ed

So who do I jinx this week, Paul or Linda? With no legit RBs in Seattle, Russ is going to be cooking with peanut oil. Hunt is going to feast on the Raiders and Henry will just keep mauling defenders. To top off the trifecta at RB, Paul gets Cook back this week. That is just ridiculous. I'm not so sure about JuJu against the Ravens, but Paul shouldn't need much.

Linda's team is no slouch. Tannehill should be back to his 30+ point output against the Bungles. Linda's issue is Zeke. What can you expect from him going against the Eagles defense with 3rd string offensive lineman and a rookie QB? Not much. You know Lockett is going to disappear a week after the 15/200/3 game. It's just what he does.

Paul extends his win streak to three this week, while Linda continues to slide to a third straight loss. It's what happens when you start playing against teams in the Beard's division.

Rolling Dunder vs EW Black

Is this a preview of the Crapper Bowl? We will see. Dunder needs Josh Allen to regain his form, but against a Belichik defense I am not sure that will happen. It all depends on how bad Cam the Scam plays. He alone could put the Buffalo offense in some very good scoring positions. It's now or never for Boston Scott who I think Krug should play in his flex over Landry if Sanders is ruled out this week.

While CEH's touches may decrease this week, they should be worth more against the Jets defense. Kelce should have a monster day against the Jets, too. You have to wonder if the Chiefs will be resting their stars by the 3rd quarter. David Montgomery will give Steve 10 points whether he needs 5 or 20. You would think the Rams have a nice matchup against the rookie, Tua. However, they don't really have tape on him so it usually favors the rookie during the first meetup. This is a close matchup. I think it comes down to the QBs. Brady > Allen this week.

Roodiculous vs Just Beat Gary

This one will be a laugher. I don't think it takes too much analysis to see that Gary is completely outmatched this week against his cousin. It's your fault, Gary, for bringing in a ringer this year. My fault, too, for trading him Adams in another blowup matchup vs Minnesota. I should have waited, but hindsight. There is a narrative I am working on for next year's draft, but ya'll have to wait to see if it works out or not.
