Week 8 Briefing

We've reached the beginning of the third quarter of the fantasy season. Each quarter (four weeks) is a season within a season. Real-life trades are happening, dramatically changing the landscape: Cooper to the Giants, Adams to the Jets, and now Nuke to the Chiefs. I'm not sure how much Hopkins has left in the tank, but if he can run down the field, it is an upgrade at WR for the Chiefs. After last week's bloodbath, many are scrambling to find WR replacements in fantasy. Linda grabbed Bateman. Nick grabbed McMillan, which sucks for me. Jordan was quick on the draw after the trade news and grabbed Hopkins without even burning a waiver. David got Perarsall. I grabbed Tolbert but then decided to go for upside with Tillman. Here's hoping the injury spree ends soon.

James vs. Nick

What lousy timing for Nick to lose the #2 overall WR on the season. I am crushed for him. It's a good break for me, but I never underestimate the ability of my lineup to underperform when I think I have a smash spot. I am praying Kupp has a massive game before he gets traded to whoever knows where. I can hope for the Vikings or Bucs, but with my luck, it will be the Steelers. Now that I've benched Kyler, he will have his best game of the season. I didn't like his schedule this quarter, so I will let him ride the pine for a while and see if he shows more consistency. I was glad to snag Caleb a couple of weeks ago since QB has been one of the weak spots in my lineup, not that I have many. My lineup decisions are sus, though. I should smoke Big Nick, but this is fantasy. I will be happy to escape with another win to stay in 1st in the Beards Division.

Gary vs. Justin

Justin is just cruising toward his 4th Championship Belt. Historically, when you perform as Henry has been, your odds are that you will take home the Belt. The difference between Henry and the next RB is similar to CMC in his prime. Jordan has owned CMC a lot and has not won a Belt. Unlike Jordan, Justin doesn't choke in the big game. It's no shocker that Justin is going to blow out Gary. The only question is by how much. The over/under is 30 points.

Steve vs. Jordan

Two hot teams face off. Steve is riding a three-game win streak, while Jordan comes in with a four-game win streak. Jordan will get Tua back in time. Daniels is doubtful to play with the rib injury. However, it is Washington. They have been known to ruin a franchise QB by rushing him back from injury too soon. Now that Mayfield has lost both of his Pro Bowl wide receivers, he has a tough decision between Mayfield and Goff. Tyreek is ready to roll with Tua, so I expect a bonkers game from him to give Steve a chance. However, I think he falls short since the Giants QB has forgotten how to play.

Cory vs. David

#1 vs #2 in the game of the week. This matchup won't disappoint. The projections are razor-thin. As a father, I am rooting for my son. The Browns should get an emotional bump with Winston starting. The defense should be playing with passion and energy. They won't stop Lamar, but they should be able to keep him from repeating another 5 TD game. I can see Cory is a projection whore. McConkey over Jennings? OK. David has the edge at TE and WR, which will give him the edge to become the #1 seed after this week.

BREAKING NEWS! After I wrote this, David made a big trade with Ashlyn. He has officially taken over Tracy's place as the crazy trader in the League. Per league rules for trading between family members, I ran the trade through Fantasy Football Trade Analyzer and Calculator which states it is a fair trade. Personally, I think it is in favor of Ashlyn but since she is the weaker team I am ok with it. David is taking on a lot of risk with the trade, but it could be a league winner. It will probably cost him the win this week, but at 5-2 I guess he thinks he is in a good position to ride it out until Week 12 when both could be back to full strength for the stretch run.

Travis vs. Linda

Travis is already a dawg in this matchup, even before they show DK out this week. We'll see if Deebo can return after pneumonia. I've had it twice. It sucks. But these NFL players aren't ordinary people. What knocked me out for months, Deebo will come back from in a week. Of course, money and the best medicine may have something to do with that. It's not going to matter. Travis is used to losing—no luck is needed this week for Linda to take Travis to the woodshed for a beatdown.

Ashlyn vs. Paul

As I was writing this, Ashlyn sent me a trade offer she received from David to analyze. The trade gives her a big boost. It may be too little, too late, but I admire the effort to try to stay competitive. Linda showed you can win the Championship even with a losing regular season record. The trade will have the biggest impact in her flex this week. Even with the boost, I still see Paul having the stronger lineup. The only hiccup could be with Montgomery who has a bad bruise to the back of his knee. There is no injury designation, but it did limit his touches last week. Tua is back so Waddle will be waddling with glee. As bad as Richardson has been so far, you would think I would pick Ashlyn to win, but Ashlyn has had zero luck this season. I expect that streak to continue.

Projected Winners:

James

Justin

Jordan

David

Linda

Paul
