Week 5

My fellow Leaguemates, I am disappointed to report that the State of the League is mid. We are approaching the six-week deadline for Gary to pay his League dues. If he does not, I will be forced to lock his team per the rules in our League Constitution. We've never had issues with collecting dues, so hopefully, this does not come to pass. We all have busy schedules and more significant priorities than the League.

After five weeks, four teams have merged as the Belt's contenders. Your Commissioner remains the only remaining undefeated team. This is due more to scheduling luck than team performance. Steve continues to dominate with another impressive points output. The less time he spends on his fantasy team, the better it does. This week, DJ Moore exploded for 53 points! Even with Kupp returning, Nacua still topped 20 points. His only weakness is RB. Mostert is still getting the majority of carries, but he also keeps fumbling. Dana's Week 1 waiver blunder was just the break Steve needed to have a chance for the Championship.

Dana continues to struggle. She faced a weaker opponent this week, but her team played down to the competition and lost again. Dana has reached the depression stage of grieving over her fantasy team. The only bright spot is the other ladies in the Broads division are also struggling to win games. They are all 1-4. Dana's team is the strongest of the three to finish 2nd and get a Championship playoff spot to avoid the Crapper playoff.

After two great trades this week, I thought I had set up my team for an epic run toward the Championship. The fantasy gods never allow it to be that easy. I felt I traded the right QB, Fields, but he went off again for 40 points, while Richardson can't learn to protect himself. He busted his shoulder early and will likely be on IR for at least four weeks. You know you are in trouble when you feel fortunate to pick up Geno off waivers as an emergency backup. The Fantasy Gods were not finished inflicting pain on my roster. Justin Jefferson came up lame with a hamstring injury. He has now been placed on IR. I guess that is a good thing since hamstring injuries can linger, so this gives him enough time to heal fully. Unfortunately, the Vikings are dead in the water, so who knows what the motivations will be for the rest of the season. I have to pray there are better days for Pollard. I was counting on him carrying my team, but the Cowboys' offense is floundering without Kellen Moore as OC. My chances for the Total Points trophy are pretty much over now. I hope my trades gave me enough depth to right the storm over the next few weeks.

With Burrow returning to health, Chase dominated with 3 TDs. I thought I made the correct keeper call after the first four weeks. Now, not so much. Paul's team is trending up. Addison will have the opportunity to show his talent with JJ on IR. The Lions are leading on Montgomery. He is such an underrated RB. Paul's surging team was too much for the undefeated Jordan to overcome. It's scary that Jordan's team still posted 132 points, even with CMC having a pedestrian day with only 13.8 points.

The League tiers are very clear this year. Steve, Jordan, Paul, and your Commissioner are in the top tier. David, Justin, Tracy, and Dana comprise the middle tier. Linda, Ashlyn, Gary, and Travis are in the bottom tier. David is close to entering the top tier, while I may end up dropping down a tier if I have any more injuries. Once JT gets his legs under him and Saquon returns, he will have a great RB duo to challenge Paul and me in the Beards division. It's still early in the season. As always, injuries can quickly change the fortunes of teams. Something I unfortunately have to deal with now.

I've been told that Gary has finally responded and plans to mail his League dues to the Commissioner's Office. Gary is still living in the pre-Internet world.

Until next week, may the odds be ever in your favor.
