Overview
With no pre-season and little information coming out of training camps, setting lineups for week 1 was filled with land mines. A couple of inferior teams pulled off victories over superior units. Injuries are already starting to pile up with Boston Scott, George Kittle, Marlon Mack, Blake Jarwin, Le'Veon Bell, Michael Thomas, James Conner, DeVante Parker, David Njoku, and Justin Jackson.
Matchups
Dark Lord Commissioner (144.10) vs The Jedi Master (135.04)
I'm not sure which is the bigger upset. Me over Justin or Schroeder over David. I would of had a high score if I hadn't swapped out Malcolm Brown for Boston Scott after the news came out that Miles Sanders was out. Sometimes it's best to just leave your lineup alone. Speaking of lineup blunders, Justin started a Jets player in Perriman. I even told him over the phone that I was staying away from all Jets players this year. If he would have started John Brown, he would have beat me as he should have. Drafting Davante Adams in the first instead of chasing after the already depleted running back pool payed off this week with the #1 overall points scorer. Thank you Davante Adams!
Its On Like Donkey Kong (128.72) vs Check Out My Lightsaber (145.38)
The intel on the Jaguars was very, very wrong, but the prediction Tracy would lose was not. Tracy can take solace that David Johnson and Chris Carson looked good until they get hurt. Watson was meh without Hopkins, but DK balled out even after a bad drop. Tracy will be getting an upgrade at WR with his trade with Dana to acquire Calvin Ridley just in time to play me. Yah! Thanks Dana! As for the little ewok, Wilson fried up the Falcons D for the 2nd highest point total of the week. Only blemish on Paul's week was not starting JuJu. High score for Paul.
Mother Tucker (112.00) vs Hays Blaze (100.06)
Dana starts off where she left off by scoring the 3rd fewest points of the week, but somehow coming away with a W. Dana hated seeing 35 pts on her bench, so she decided to trade Ridley instead of playing both Julio and Ridley each week. Not sure that is the best thing, but honestly I am just bitter she chose Tracy's offer over mine. Travis' bench almost outscored his starters thanks to Rodgers big day. In defense of Travis, in the previous 4 games against the Vikings, Rodgers had 4 TDs total and only averaged 184 yards per game. Drafting Love really put a fire under Rodgers, but I think it was Danica dumping him that has made all the difference. Travis can look forward to Jonathan Taylor eating the rest of the season with Mack out with the Achilles injury. JT looked really good. I still think it's going to be a long season for the Bounty Hunter, so chug one down like Aaron.
Rolling Dunder (103.68) vs Roodiculous (115.80)
It looked like Gary was on his way to a loss, but Krug said, "Hold my beer." Conner was playing tight even before his ankle injury. It was clear he has lost Big Ben's confidence as Ben wouldn't throw him the ball even when he was wide open in the flat. The double whammy was Michael Thomas high ankle injury after a really poor performance even before the injury. When your first 2 draft picks get injured Week 1, it is going to be a loooooonnnnnggggg season. There's still hope for Krug since he has Mostert and Dobbins on his bench. Dobbins got the goal line work which surprised me much to Gary's lament with Ingram. As for Gary, enjoy the win while you can.
EW Black (118.66) vs The Tatooine Twin Suns (115.40)
David says he wants the League vote to abolish the DST position. I don't blame him after the Vikings -8 pts cost him the win this week. David must have the worst luck I've seen in fantasy football. No one can blame David for picking Barkley over CEH, but man did CEH look good in his debut. As a Chiefs fan, I am ecstatic! Steve has a nice TE combo with Kelce and Fant. Maybe some trade bait in the near future to help his chance of finally escaping the Broads division. He'll need it.
Underestim8ed (134.70) vs Just Beat Gary (125.84)
This matchup went like I prognosticated. "I think this matchup hinges on LeVeon Bell which is bad news for Jordan. I wouldn’t be surprised if Frank Gore outscores Bell thanks to Coach B Hole." While Gore didn't outscore Bell, Le'Veon was off to his same pedantic scoring as last year. Now he has a bad hammy. Jordan still has a solid team, so this was just a bad matchup for Week 1. Linda looking strong early, as usual. We'll see if she can stay strong and win the Broads Division.
